H.O.P.E.
HOPE provides Hands On Practical Experience in a simplified form of CPR using only chest compressions (no mouth-to-mouth breaths).  Chest compression-only CPR has been shown to be as effective as regular CPR.  We would concentrate on this practical skill with an emphasis on your on-site AEDs.

Group Presentation  - Training Program Outline: Hands-Only CPR and AED Use
1. Introduction
  • Objective: Explain the goals of the training and the importance of hands-only CPR and AEDs in cardiac arrest scenarios.
  • Overview of Hands-Only CPR: Discuss why chest compression-only CPR can be as effective as traditional CPR with breaths, particularly for laypersons or in high-stress environments.
2. Understanding Cardiac Arrest
  • What Is Cardiac Arrest?: Briefly explain cardiac arrest and its difference from a heart attack.
  • Importance of Immediate Action: Highlight the critical nature of quick intervention and how hands-only CPR helps maintain blood flow until professional help arrives.
3. Hands-Only CPR
  • Demonstration:
    • Body Positioning: Show proper hand placement in the center of the chest.
    • Compression Technique: Demonstrate the depth and rate of compressions (at least 2 inches deep and 100-120 compressions per minute).
    • Continuous Compression: Emphasize the importance of uninterrupted compressions.
  • Practice:
    • Hands-On Practice: Allow participants to practice on mannequins to build muscle memory and confidence.
    • Feedback: Provide immediate feedback on technique and adjustments as needed.
4. Using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • Introduction to AEDs:
    • What Is an AED?: Explain how AEDs work and their role in cardiac arrest situations.
    • Location of AEDs: Identify where AEDs are located on-site and their accessibility.
  • AED Demonstration:
    • Turning On the AED: Show how to power up the device.
    • Electrode Placement: Demonstrate how to correctly place the electrode pads on the patient's chest.
    • Following AED Instructions: Explain how the AED provides voice and visual prompts and how to follow them.
  • Practice:
    • Simulated Use: Allow participants to practice using an AED in a simulated scenario.
5. Integration of Hands-Only CPR and AED
  • Scenario Practice:
    • Combining Skills: Simulate real-life scenarios where participants perform hands-only CPR and use an AED.
    • Role Play: Assign roles (compressor, AED operator) and practice in a team setting.
  • Emergency Procedures: Review steps to take if the patient regains consciousness or emergency services arrive.
6. Review and Evaluation
  • Debriefing: Discuss what participants learned, any difficulties they encountered, and how they felt about their performance.
  • Feedback: Provide constructive feedback and answer any questions.
  • Evaluation: Conduct a brief assessment to evaluate participants' understanding and skills.
7. Continuous Improvement
  • Refresher Courses: We will offer periodic refresher courses to ensure skills remain sharp.
  • Updates: Keep training aligned with the latest guidelines and advancements in resuscitation techniques.
8. Resources and Support
  • Materials: Provide handouts and resources with CPR and AED guidelines.
  • Contacts: Share contact information for further questions or support.
